State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) is a husband, father, veteran and public servant. Before being elected to the Illinois Senate, Cullerton was the Village President of Villa Park where he championed sound fiscal policies, streamlined government and protected working families.
During his time in office, Villa Park experienced job creation, balanced its budgets and fully funded its pension system. He draws on his own experiences to improve the lives of people in his district and those throughout Illinois
In addition to government services, Cullerton served in the Army from 1990 to 1993 as an infantryman. Using his military experience, he served on the Task Force on Veterans’ Suicide to hear from veterans, health care professionals and community groups to investigate the causes to and prevention of suicides among returning Illinois veterans.
As state senator, Cullerton has propelled DuPage County as a leader in government consolidation to promote government efficiency and save tax payer dollars.
Cullerton takes the initiative to introduce common sense legislation to promote good government, transparency and bipartisan resolutions.
This year, he is working on legislation to consolidate local and state government, streamline services, fight misuse of taxpayer dollars and promote voter participation in school board elections.
He is also involved in many civic organizations including the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, Citizen Police Academy and the Villa Park Chamber of Commerce. He also coaches several of his sons’ sports teams and volunteers with their Boy Scout troop.
Cullerton serves as Chairman of Veteran Affairs and as Vice Chairperson on State Government, Agriculture, Higher Education, Labor and Telecommunications & InfoTechnology.
