VILLA PARK – Illinois veterans with permanent disabilities will have an easier time renewing their parking placards under a new law signed Tuesday.

State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) introduced the plan removing the requirement that veterans with permanent disabilities show evidence of their disability when reapplying for handicapped parking.

“For veterans with serious, permanent disabilities it is disrespectful to ask them to prove that injury every four years. This is a way of making their lives easier,” Cullerton said.

Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth (D-Hoffman Estates) – who advocated for this bill and brought the original idea to Cullerton – attended the bill signing.

Governor Pat Quinn signed the bill during a ceremony at the Villa Park Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
