05032017AM5839SPRINGFIELD – To stand up for overtaxed DuPage County residents, Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) voted against instituting burdensome tax rates.

Cullerton voted against Senate Bill 687 which would institute tax rates if voters choose to end the flat tax system.

“We need to see if the voters approve this citizen’s initiative before setting rates in place,” Cullerton said. “The rates I saw do not provide savings to the working families of DuPage County.”

The Senate passed Senate Bill 690, which is a property tax relief measure that will freeze bills as long as the state fully funds the evidence-based school funding formula.

“As I talk to residents throughout our community, the number one concern I continue to hear is rising property tax bills,” Cullerton said. “This measure assures that if the state continues to fund schools the right way, it will lower local residents’ property tax bills. This is a step in the right direction.”

Cullerton also voted in favor of ending the estate tax on the value of inheritances over $4 million.

“Most states agree that a state-level tax on our departed loved ones is just unnecessary,” Cullerton said. “The state needs to stop looking for opportunities to tax local residents and focus on creating jobs and expanding opportunities forlocal businesses in our communities.”

Cullerton urges local residents to call his office at (630) 903-6662 to share their thoughts on these measures.
