TCJobFairSixty employers and over 200 job seekers came together for a jobs fair in Villa Park on Wednesday. State Senator Tom Cullerton, the Illinois Department of Employment Security and eight local chambers of commerce hosted the event.¬¬

“So often, lawmakers talk about creating jobs—today we are able to put employers and people seeking jobs directly in touch with each other,” Cullerton said. “You get a great feeling seeing someone walk in without a job and walk out with one.”

Job seekers were able to meet with employers, distribute resumes and interview for positions.

“It was informative, I was able to make contacts and hopefully I can find a position,” one job seeker, Keith Sichlar said.

One local employer, Melrose Park based Winston Brands, had 80 to 100 job openings. Winston Bands runs Collections Etc., a mail order catalog that specializes in Christmas and seasonal gifts

“This fair gives a chance to meet lots of candidates.”Jessy Chilson, the company’s seasonal promoter, said. “We are looking for mostly seasonal employees to staff our distribution center: forklift operators, order pickers and drivers,” Chilson said.

“It is gratifying to see people in need of jobs and businesses in need of employers come together,” Cullerton said. “I look forward this becoming an annual event so that we can continue to improve economic standing of the 23rd District.”
