TC-OfficeMaxState Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) and OfficeMax executives testified at a Senate committee on legislation to protect thousand of Illinois jobs.

House Bill 3271 creates an economic package incentivizing the soon-to-be combined OfficeMax and Office Depot to maintain their corporate headquarters and logistical operation in the Chicagoland area.

“We are being proactive in the fight to keep businesses like OfficeMax in Illinois, and we are showing how competitive Illinois can be,” Cullerton said. “This is a bipartisan effort to keep a valuable business and valuable jobs in the state.”

OfficeMax and Office Depot began a merger in February and are in negotiations over the location of the new company’s corporate offices. Office Max is headquartered in Naperville with additional facilities in DuPage County. Office Depot is located in Florida.

Over 2,000 OfficeMax employees work in the Chicagoland area and a decision to locate the new offices in Naperville represents thousands of additional jobs.

“This is a chance for the legislature to show critics that Illinois has an open, positive environment for successful corporations,” Cullerton said.

Cullerton’s plan awaits further action by the Senate.
