SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) hosted four successful town hall meetings throughout DuPage County this week.

“These open, engaging meetings are one of my favorite ways of hearing the concerns of people in our district. We had great turnout and I look forward to hosting more outreach events throughout the summer,” Cullerton said.

Cullerton discussed property and income taxes, O’Hare Airport noise issues and concerns over public employee pensions at the meetings in Glendale Heights, Villa Park, Itasca and Hanover Park.

053014 js 0595SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Senate approved a plan on Friday shortening the timeframe local governments must wait for tax dollars from the state.

State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) sponsored the legislation that would speed up transfers from the state to the Local Government Distributive Fund, which helps bankroll city and county operations.

“This eliminates uncertainty and promotes efficient government. If local governments know when this money is coming they can plan better and provide improved services,” Cullerton said.

Local units of government collectively receive 6% of individual income tax and 6.86% of corporate income tax collected by the state annually.

Cullerton’s plan, House Bill 961, requires the state comptroller to transfer the money into the fund making direct deposit payments to local units of government. The money must be transferred no more than 60 days after the state treasurer certifies the amount to be moved.

House Bill 961 passed the Senate by a 58-0 vote. It now returns to the House for a concurrence vote before going to the governor for approval.

VILLA PARK – State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) will host four town hall meetings next week. The meetings give residents the chance to ask Cullerton questions and discuss issues important to the 23rd Senate District.

UPDATE: Township assessors will be available at each event to help constituents with property tax issues. Constituents who have question or would like help with specific issues should bring:

  • Their property tax bill
  • Any appraisal done in the past year-and-a-half
  • A closing statement if the property was bought within a year

The meetings will take place from Monday through Thursday in Glendale Heights, Villa Park, Itasca and Hanover Park.

All events are open to the public and the press.

052714CM0950SPRINGFIELD – State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) voted Wednesday to support suburban school districts by opposing an initiative to redistribute state school funding.

“DuPage taxpayers already bankroll schools across the state. This proposal cuts funding to our communities, which have some of the highest property taxes. This plan hurts my district and the taxpayers of DuPage County,” Cullerton said.

The proposal, Senate Bill 16, would undo the current state funding formula diverting state funding away from many suburban school districts.

Senate Bill 16 passed by a 32-19  vote and now moves to the House for a vote.
