050814 dh 0102SPRINGFIELD – Students from across Illinois visited the Capitol last week to show off their work in science and technology. At Tech Day 2014, students from Ardmore Elementary School showcased their projects to legislators and others while relaying the importance of technology access in the classroom. The students project explored ways of using digital animation in education.

State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) met with the students and discussed their work.

“The level of expertise that these students have is amazing. The importance of early, technology-based education is obvious, and the hard work they’re putting in now will absolutely pay off in the future,” Cullerton said.

SPRINGFIELD Twenty DuPage County schools will soon be able to make safety and security upgrades thanks to an Illinois Emergency Management Agency grant program.

The Illinois School and Campus Safety Grant Program awarded $1.6 million in grants aimed at improving school and student safety – covering 87 separate projects in DuPage County schools and colleges.

State Senator Tom Cullerton (D-Villa Park) applauded the award.

“If we have learned anything from tragic, violent school shootings, it is that protecting our children at school should be one of our highest priorities,” Cullerton said. “This funding gives schools the ability to be proactive and helps ensure the safety of our students.”

Governor Pat Quinn announced the grants last week.

“These projects will strengthen security at main entry points, providing school personnel with critical moments to alert law enforcement, activate plans to protect students and save lives,” Quinn said.
