TCullerton-ParkDistrictsPark districts throughout the suburbs would gain needed flexibility in their budgeting under legislation State Senator Tom Cullerton advanced Thursday in the Illinois State Senate.

Cullerton’s proposal gives park boards the ability to adjust their budget plan if they receive new funds during the fiscal year that were unanticipated at the time the budget was approved. Currently this process is difficult and confusing for those involved.

“I was very pleased today to pass another measure that streamlines government to make local governments more effective,” Cullerton said. “It’s important to make sure these local governments, like the park districts, have the ability to run efficiently.”

Park districts approve their annual operating budget at the beginning of the fiscal year. Revenues that are not anticipated at that time would not be included in the park district’s budget.

TCullerton-ShrinkGovernmentState Senator Tom Cullerton’s proposal to reduce government in DuPage County passed the Senate on Thursday. This proposal gives the DuPage County Board the ability to consolidate smaller levels of local government.

"It's no secret Illinois has way too many layers of government,” Cullerton said. “My goal here is to make DuPage County a leader in streamlining government, while at the same time ensuring taxpayers get quality services."

Cullerton’s legislation, Senate Bill 494, allows the DuPage County Board to dissolve many appointed positions to provide taxpayers with a smaller, less costly and more efficient local government. The proposal also gives the option for voters to petition against the decision of the board if they choose. Current law requires a voter referendum to remove these appointed boards and authorities.

People across DuPage County have been dealing with the effects of the recent flooding. While many of our communities have already started to clean up and return to normal, much of the region is still under water or are about to see more flooding.

I would like to take this opportunity to pass along some helpful information and resources.
